Who would be crazy enough to hang up the suit and tie, pack away the briefcase, and leave the confines of the boardroom for a pair of work gloves, steel-toe boots, and no pay cheque for the next 18 months? “Everyone thought I was crazy” reflects Bailey Jung, owner of Silver Bullet Shredding which he founded in 2005.
It was in early 2005 while working as an Investment Advisor with RBC Dominion Securities, the wealth management arm of the RBC Financial Group that founder Bailey Jung had an epiphany. Every week someone from one of the national shredding companies would come into their office and wheel out two large carts full of sensitive and confidential documents to be shredded. And even though the “shredding guy” passed by him hundreds of times in the past, something caused Bailey to take notice this time.
New federal and provincial privacy legislation had just come into effect in January of 2004. Identity theft was on the rise and garnering widespread media attention. Demand for shredding would surely rise Bailey thought. Bailey saw an opportunity and within days was busy conducting market research, learning all he could about the players in the market, and hatching a plan to get into the shredding business.
From humble beginnings starting with a simple custom built shredding truck operating out of his parent’s garage in East Vancouver, Bailey built Silver Bullet Shredding one client at a time to become one of the most respected and trusted shredding companies in Metro Vancouver. Today the company is an award-winning shredding provider with an enviable roster of client accounts.
